Triumphant Son of God

This song is one of my original compositions mixed with a little bit of hymn #41 'Let Zion In Her Beauty Rise'.

I tried to capture the excitement, relief, and amazement that must have filled the hearts of the Nephite believers. Shortly before Christ was born, 'a day was set apart by the unbelievers' that if the signs were not fulfilled, then all who still believed in the coming of Christ would be put to death. The song was written to capture the emotions they must have experienced during that anxious time. Even the night before the execution date, we read:

  • But behold, they (the believers) did watch steadfastly for that day and that night and that day which should be as one day as if there were no night, that they might know that their faith had not been vain.

As we know, Christ's birth occured that night and the believers were saved just in time.

This song starts with the people shouting 'Christ is born unto us!'. They were literally saved by His birth. Then it transitions into parts of hymn #41 which speaks of 'sound[ing] the golden trump. [His] light begins to shine...[Our] King will rend the skies, Majestic and divine.' Exactly how it happened for the Nephites...a light filled the night sky so as to appear as if it were noon day. The last part of the song speaks of spreading the news from pole to pole.

Although it is a slightly unconventional Christmas tune, I had a lot of fun writing this piece. I feel it is an appropriate anthem for those faithful Nephite believers.
