Jesus, Lover of My Soul

This is a light, peaceful arrangement of hymn #102 from the LDS hymn book, 'Jesus, Lover of My Soul'. The trick to playing this piece is bringing out the melody amidst all of the arpeggiation in the right hand.

I like the message of the song, which is that Jesus will guide, support, and keep us in our mortal journey. He has all power and love to support and help us.
I think this has timeless meaning as we combat both individual and societal wars, turmoil, and chaos.

The lyrics were written by Charles Wesley and read as follows:

  • 1. Jesus, lover of my soul,
    Let me to thy bosom fly,
    While the nearer waters roll,
    While the tempest still is high.
    Hide me, O my Savior, hide,
    Till the storm of life is past.
    Safe into the haven guide;
    Oh, receive my soul at last.
  • 2. Other refuge have I none;
    Hangs my helpless soul on thee.
    Leave, oh, leave me not alone;
    Still support and comfort me.
    All my trust on thee is stayed;
    All my help from thee I bring.
    Cover my defenseless head
    With the shadow of thy wing.
