Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing / We Thank Thee, O God, For a Prophet

This arrangement combines the melodies and messages of these two hymns. The men sing the melody and message of 'Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing' while the women sing the melody and message of 'We Thank Thee, O God, For a Prophet'. At times both men and women combine to sing the lyrics of 'We Thank Thee, O God, For a Prophet' to the melody of 'Come Thou Fount'.

When I was choir director, I was able to perform this with my choir. It received a lot of positive feedback from both choir members and audience members. My reasoning behind combining the two tunes and messages is from the idea that Christ is the source and fount of every blessing. However, without the restored gospel, our knowledge of Him and those important covenants and ordinances that bind us to Him would still be lost in apostasy. The two are interconnected.

The second verse talks about Jesus rescuing us as 'strangers wandering from the fold of God'. The women then speak of 'hope smiling bright before us'. Then the men and women combine together praising His goodness and mercy...and rejoicing in the restored gospel. This message has double meaning between repentance and the resoration of the gospel from apostasy. This multi-layered message is what I am trying to convey through the music.
